This shows the North-east Ridge of Everest, and the summit on the
right. The ridge would make a good route to the summit but for the
pinnacles which can be seen at the top and which are very hard to
negotiate. Joe Boardman and Pete Tasker disappeared while attempting to
skirt these pinnacles in 1982, and I believe that the ridge has only
subsequently been climbed once, by two climbers in 1988, who then
elected not to carry on to the summit but to return via the North Col.
I drew this picture from just above Advanced Base Camp, at around 6500m.
