The Hunza river was not easy to cross in the past. Now of course there are bridges, but in the past the two sides were so cut off from each other that separate kingdoms developed on each side, and occasional raiding parties would be sent across the river to attach the other side. This is a reconstructed watchtower, supposedly built to look out for such raiding parties.
